GETTING STARTED
— what is the fleet?
The Fleet is a panfandom sandbox based on the Star Trek universe, but existing as an alternate reality. We are focused on sci-fi elements and player plots, though mod events will be in place on a monthly basis. The Fleet is sex-positive, but please use your own discretion. Currently, The Fleet is invite only. More info below on caps and getting an invite code.
— do i have to have prior star trek knowledge?
While it would certainly help: no! This sandbox exists as an au/parallel universe. Things will be explained as they're introduced, along with relevant Star Trek wiki links, so (hopefully) you'll never be left in the dark over terminology or what something is.
— how do i join/when are apps open?
Apps are open all the time and are completely informal. To join, players in game who have invited you can request an invite code for you to place on your application. Players without an invite code will not be considered.
— can i invite someone/are there restrictions?
You can absolutely invite a friend or two (three!) Please see below for player caps, and please be aware that players who have previously been banned in other games probably won't be a good fit here.
— who can i bring to the fleet?
Canon characters, OC's, CRAU's and canon oc's are welcome. As a fast rule: canon oc's should have no relation to the main cast of the canon. CRAU's cover previous game cr and psl cr.
— can i app a different version of a character already in game?
Two versions of the same character can exist in game so long as they are from different mediums. For example, Dick Grayon from Titans could be in game alongside Dick Grayson from DC Comics. However, there could not be two Dick Grayson's from Titans where one is canon compliant and one is a CRAU. Similarly, there could not be a Dick Grayson from the main comic continuity and a separate comic standalone continuity.
— is there a character restriction alongside the player age restriction?
Yes. Characters should be 17 or over. We do not accept aged up characters.
— is there a character/player cap?
Yes. Player cap is currently 25, with a character cap of 5 characters each. This is subject to change after some review.
— what are the activity requirements?
There are no activity requirements. There is, however, a monthly check in which players should reply to.
— what about no-no's? what if i have a problem?
While The Fleet is sex-positive, please be mindful of other players preferences. We do not currently accept non-con of any kind.
Please be cordial with other players. Respect one another and respect boundaries. If you are having issues with a player, please contact the mod with evidence. There is a no-strike policy due to the player cap; if you are found to be in breach of rules you will receive an immediate ban.
WORLD MECHANICS
— what happened to the Federation/ why is called the Fleet?
The Fleet is the Federation; a nickname that has stuck. Higher-up's will routinely refer to it as its official name, but the cast your character will be exposed to will routinely just refer to it as The Fleet.
The Federation exists closer to that seen in Discover s3; a delicate balance between the Starfleet that exists in the prime universe and the militant one in the mirror universe. There has been a large push towards returning to exploration and research: Caledonia's skeleton crew are representative of how much funding is currently going towards this. They are also hugely key to whether or not resources are expanded to research missions.
— what happens to my characters powers?
Your characters will generally keep their powers. Upon arrival, you character will receive a full medical with the abilities and powers assessed. World breaking or dangerous powers will be reviewed by the mod, and may be capped. IC explanations for this will vary, though most commonly it will be explained as cellular reconstitution being in flux.
If you would like your character to GAIN powers, there will be opportunities during events for this to happen. Powers must be approved by the mod.
— how does the 'network' work?
The 'network' is the basic communications system aboard the Caledonia, accessed through crew badges and their tablet devices. Tablet devices in conjunction with their Starfleet issued temporary badges can be used to access an old communication line, which is for all extents and purposes, private. Characters are free to tinker with this and expand/upgrade it as they wish. While badges are limited to audio and visual, tablets are limited to text -- so, for example, players are free to have their characters work on ways to combine these two.
Tablet usernames are displayed as follows:
- RANKED OFFICERS: #RANK.Firstname.Lastname - >
- UNRANKED: #Firstname.Lastname - >
— what are the 'bursts'?
The 'bursts' are random, deep space black hole anomalies, breaching the multiversal and time barrier. Whether they are naturally occurring remains to be seen, but the Caledonia has been tasked with investigating them due to the arrival of unexpected travellers.
Further explanation will be available as time passes.
— can you explain the Caledonia and ARCADIA?
There is more information available on the locations page, but in brief: the USS Caledonia is a research ship tasked with investigating the bursts. Design wise, think of 'ST: Discovery', as the technology is much closer to that found in third season. There is evidence on board that the crew were looking into introducing a spore drive, but those plans seem to have gone by the wayside as the bursts started happening.
The ARCADIA is a deep space station, home to various businesses and diplomatic meeting points. It exists as a neutral point in space, with no particular affiliation.
CHARACTER INFO
— how did my character end up in the escape pod?
The short answer is: no one knows. The long answer is: it could be aliens? The escape pods are one of the many factors being investigated by the Caledonia. Each pod, however, belongs to a ship in the Fleet -- and no one can explain why.
— my character is from star trek, will they be recognised?
There will be some historical information on this universes version of your character, but typically they will be treated like any other traveller.
— what does my character do now?
Get involved. Investigate. Create interpersonal drama with other travellers.
— can my character stay on ARCADIA instead of the Caledonia?
Yes. In fact, they be encouraged to if they lack skill sets that would benefit the Caledonia and her crew. On the Arcadia, characters will have the chance to open businesses, train with the Fleet or even sneak off to other locations as the months progress. Your character will stay have access to the Caledonia, though, as it docks on a monthly basis.
